The European Commission has issued Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1549, published on 30 July 2025, correcting the conditions of use for two novel foods, 3-Fucosyllactose (3-FL) produced from E. coli K-12 DH1, and Schizochytrium sp. oil rich in DHA and EPA, ensuring legal clarity and safety compliance across the EU food market. The correction reinstates the authorization of 3-FL in foods for special medical purposes for infants and young children, aligning with the EFSA safety assessment, and resolves omissions in earlier regulations. As an EU-wide implementing regulation, this update applies directly in all EU Member States, supporting innovation, infant nutrition, and harmonized food safety standards across the European Union.
