"La Guadalupana Foods LLC, a Chicago, Illinois–based establishment, is recalling approximately 2,669 pounds of ready-to-eat frozen tamale products due to misbranding and the presence of an undeclared allergen, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced.
The recall involves fully cooked bean, cheese, and jalapeño tamales that were incorrectly labeled as mild pork tamales. The affected products contain cheese, a milk-derived ingredient and a recognized food allergen, which was not declared on the product label. Individuals with a milk allergy or sensitivity may be at risk of an allergic reaction if they consume these products.
The tamales were produced on October 7, 2025. The following product is subject to recall:
10.9-lb. plastic-lined boxes containing 50 frozen tamales, labeled as “La Guadalupana MILD PORK TAMALES Wrapped in Corn Husks,” with pack date 10/07/25 and best-by date 10/08/26.
The recalled products bear establishment number “EST. 21094” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were distributed to restaurant and retail locations in Illinois, Iowa, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
The issue was identified after a restaurant notified the company that it had received bean, cheese, and jalapeño tamales that were mislabeled as pork tamales. At this time, there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions related to consumption of the recalled products. Consumers who believe they may have experienced a reaction are advised to contact a healthcare provider.
FSIS is concerned that some of the affected products may still be in restaurant or consumer refrigerators or freezers. Consumers are urged not to consume these products and are advised to either discard them or return them to the place of purchase.
FSIS will conduct recall effectiveness checks to ensure that the recalling firm has notified its customers and that appropriate actions have been taken to remove the product from the marketplace. When available, retail distribution lists will be posted on the FSIS recalls webpage."
