"Ghanaianway Restaurant and Grocery LLC, a Newark, New Jersey–based establishment, is recalling approximately 5,970 pounds of fresh salted lamb products because they were produced without the benefit of federal inspection, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced.
The recalled products consist of fresh, raw, salted lamb items produced between March 11, 2025, and December 3, 2025. The following product is subject to recall:
15-lb. plastic-lined boxes containing “GHANAIANWAY AFRICAN FOODS SALTED LAMB (KOOBI)”.
The affected products do not bear the USDA mark of inspection and do not declare a production date or best-by date. In some cases, packages do not bear any label at all. The products have an estimated shelf life of one year and were distributed to restaurant and retail locations in Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.
The issue was identified during routine FSIS retail surveillance activities. At this time, there have been no confirmed reports of illness associated with consumption of the recalled products. Anyone who has concerns about a potential reaction or illness should contact a healthcare provider.
FSIS is concerned that some of the affected products may still be present in consumer and restaurant refrigerators or freezers. Consumers are urged not to consume these products, and restaurants are urged not to serve them. The recalled products should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.
FSIS will conduct recall effectiveness checks to ensure that the recalling firm has notified its customers and that appropriate steps have been taken to remove the product from the marketplace. When available, retail distribution lists will be posted on the FSIS recalls webpage.
