"The Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) — comprising the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen — has notified the World Trade Organization (WTO) of a draft Technical Regulation for Salad Dressing. The regulation has been proposed by the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA), which is acting as the responsible agency.
The draft regulation covers salad dressings, emulsified sauces, and dipping sauces intended for direct human consumption. It specifically excludes non-emulsified sauces such as tomato, cheese, barbeque, sweet or chili pepper sauces, and water-based sauces like fish or oyster sauce.
The primary objective of the proposed regulation is to ensure food safety, aligning with the Codex Alimentarius Standard CXS 192. The draft conforms to relevant international standards and will apply to all trading partners."
