"On October 13, 2025, Georgia issued Government Regulation No. 450, revising Decree No. 508 concerning the technical regulations on the addition of vitamins, minerals, and certain other substances to food, effective immediately upon promulgation. The main revisions include:
1. Expand the scope of application of the regulations to include five new categories: foods for special dietary purposes (without specific standards), new foods and new food ingredients, genetically modified foods, food additives and flavorings, and authorized brewing practices and processes;
2. The chemical forms of vitamins and minerals that can be added are clarified, including ""menaquinone (vitamin K2)"" for vitamin K and ""pyridoxine dipalmitate"" for vitamin B6; ""phosphorylated oligosaccharide calcium (POs-Ca)"" for calcium; and ""lactoferrin iron"" and ""elemental iron (carbon-based + electrolyte + reduced hydrogen)"" for iron. The selenium source for ""selenium yeast"" is clarified as sodium selenite, and the finished product selenium content is ≤2.5 mg Se/g, with selenomethionine accounting for 60%-85%.
3. Regarding restricted substances, monacolins produced from red yeast rice fermentation have been added, with a daily intake of ≤3mg. Labels must include warnings such as ""Not for use by pregnant or breastfeeding women"" and ""Do not take with cholesterol-lowering drugs."" Green tea extract (containing EGGG) has also been added, with a daily intake of ≤800mg. Labels must include warnings such as ""Do not take with other green tea extract products."" Trans fats have also been added, with a limit of ≤2g/100g fat in finished foods. Addition to infant formula is prohibited."
