The International Collaboration on Cosmetic Safety (ICCS) has introduced its Best Practice Guidance (BPG) on skin sensitisation, alongside a dedicated webinar aimed at supporting its practical application in regulatory safety assessment. The initiative focuses on helping scientists, regulators, and industry professionals apply New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) to evaluate skin sensitisation without relying on animal testing, in line with OECD Guideline 497 and Next Generation Risk Assessment principles. The accompanying webinar, titled “Skin Sensitisation: Safety Assessment Using NAMs for Substances in Cosmetics and Personal Care Products,” demonstrates how the BPG can be implemented in real-world scenarios. It highlights defined approaches such as the 2 out of 3 (2o3) method, Integrated Testing Strategy (ITS), and SARA-ICE model, showing how these tools can be combined to strengthen regulatory decision-making. Speakers from leading organisations, including Procter & Gamble, Unilever, and L’Oréal, present case studies and practical examples to bridge the gap between theoretical guidance and daily safety assessment practice. The session also includes live Q&A, allowing participants to engage directly with experts and clarify implementation challenges. Overall, the BPG and webinar aim to accelerate the transition toward consistent, transparent, and animal-free cosmetic safety assessments by equipping stakeholders with practical, science-based tools for skin sensitisation evaluation in regulatory contexts.
