The Consumer Affairs Agency (CAA) of Japan has launched a public consultation on proposed revisions to the Positive List system for substances used in the manufacture of food utensils, containers, and packaging (FCPs). The proposed amendment involves adding new substances, revising existing specifications, and updating migration limits for certain substances used in FCP materials. These updates are based on recent risk assessments, international regulatory developments, and new scientific data. The Positive List system ensures that only approved substances with established safety evaluations can be used in food contact materials in Japan. The draft details proposed revisions to: Specific migration limits (SMLs) Use conditions And permissible materials for new and existing substances. Stakeholders, including industry groups, manufacturers, and consumers, are invited to submit feedback.The public consultation period is open until 28 June 2025.
