"The Food Safety and Quality Division of Malaysia’s Ministry of Health has announced the release of Food Regulations 2025 (Amendment No. 3), which will officially take effect on April 1, 2026. A major revision in the updated regulations concerns alcoholic beverages. The minimum alcohol content threshold has been lowered from 2% to 0.5% by volume, aligning regulatory standards with evolving consumer preferences and market practices. The amendment also brings updates to the specific product standards across a broad spectrum of alcoholic beverages, including wine, cocktails, liqueurs, fruit wine, vegetable wine, mead, beer, rice wine, palm wine, brandy, rum, whisky, vodka, and gin. These revisions are intended to enhance product safety, ensure consistent quality, and provide clearer guidance to manufacturers and distributors.
The Ministry of Health emphasized that the changes are part of its ongoing commitment to food safety, consumer protection, and the harmonization of beverage standards in Malaysia."
