"New Zealand Food Safety, under the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI), has issued a recall for several Brie and Camembert cheese products due to the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes. The recall affects Food Snob and Mon Ami brand cheeses produced in France and distributed nationwide. Affected Products: 1.Food Snob – Classic French Brie 125 g and 200 g 2.Food Snob – Classic French Camembert 125 g and 200 g 3.Mon Ami – Double Cream French Brie Petit 125 g 4.Mon Ami – Mild & Creamy French Camembert Petit 125 g All batches with a “Best Before” date up to and including 22 September 2025 are included. Health Risk Advisory: Listeria poses minimal risk to healthy adults—typically causing mild flu-like symptoms or short-term gastrointestinal discomfort. However, it can be life-threatening for vulnerable groups such as pregnant individuals, newborns, the elderly, or those with weakened immune systems. New Zealand Food Safety Deputy Director-General Vincent Arbuckle emphasized that “Listeria differs from other bacteria in that it can grow at refrigeration temperatures,” making vigilance crucial. Consumer Action Required: Affected products should not be consumed. Consumers can return the cheese to the place of purchase for a full refund; alternatively, products can be disposed of safely. Response Measures: The cheeses are being actively removed from retail outlets and supermarkets across New Zealand. The overseas manufacturer and distributor have initiated the recall, and MPI reports no cases of illness linked to these products at this time."
