NVWA warns plant-based meat producers about the improper use of the term "ground meat"

On October 24, 2025, the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) warned meat substitute manufacturers and major supermarket chains for using the term “minced meat” on plant-based product packaging. Brands like De Vegetarisch Slager, Vivera, and private labels from retailers such as Albert Heijn and Jumbo were targeted. The NVWA emphasized that labeling must not mislead consumers, ensuring clear distinction between plant-based products and traditional meat.
