Peru has issued a draft directoral resolution establishing updated phytosanitary requirements for the importation of wheat grain (Triticum spp.) originating from and shipped from Brazil. The measure was proposed by the National Agrarian Health Service (SENASA) following a pest risk analysis (ARP) that identified potential risks associated with the entry of regulated quarantine pests into the country.
Key Requirements for Wheat Imports
Under the draft resolution, imported wheat consignments must comply with the following mandatory phytosanitary conditions:
1.Obtain a Phytosanitary Import Permit issued by SENASA before certification and shipment from the exporting country.
2.Be accompanied by an official Phytosanitary Certificate issued by the competent authority in Brazil.
Additional Declaration Requirements
The phytosanitary certificate must declare that the shipment is free from the following pests:
-Aleuroglyphus ovatus
-Carpophilus marginellus
-Oryzaephilus mercator
-Corcyra cephalonica
-Listronotus bonariensis
-Liposcelis entomophila
The certificate must also indicate the seal numbers used for the shipment.
Mandatory Pre-shipment Treatments
The wheat grain must undergo one of the following approved phytosanitary treatments before shipment:
1.Methyl Bromide Fumigation
Specified dosage and exposure periods depending on treatment temperature, ranging from:
40 g/m³ for 12 hours at ≥32°C to 144 g/m³ for 12 hours at 4–9°C.
2.Phosphamine Treatment
Approved dosage and exposure schedules include: 3 g/m³ for 72 hours at 16–20°C , 2 g/m³ for 96–240 hours depending on temperature conditions.
