On 7 May 2026, South Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) announced the expansion of its “Halal Cosmetics Certification Support Project” to strengthen K-beauty entry into the growing global halal cosmetics market. According to MFDS, the initiative supports Korean cosmetic companies in responding to increasingly stringent halal certification requirements in major markets, including Indonesia’s mandatory halal labeling requirements scheduled for implementation in October 2026. The agency noted that the global halal cosmetics market is projected to grow from USD 84 billion in 2022 to USD 129 billion by 2027. MFDS stated that 30 companies preparing for halal certification will receive customised on-site consulting, while beginner, intermediate, and advanced training programmes will be conducted twice annually. The ministry also plans to organise seminars with overseas experts to share updates on certification systems and export market trends. In addition, MFDS will support expansion of mutual recognition arrangements (MRAs) with certification bodies in major export destinations such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Indonesia. The agency further announced plans to establish an integrated database containing halal-certified raw material information, company data, and halal regulatory requirements for 10 major countries, supported through an AI-based regulatory consultation service.
