"On October 28, 2025, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) submitted notification G/TBT/ARE/679 through the WTO, introducing the ""Front-of-Pack Nutrition Labelling Requirements"" for food and beverages issued by the UAE Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MOIAT). The regulation specifies general and specific requirements for front-of-pack (FOP) nutrition labelling, covering a wide range of products including dairy products, oils and fats, cereals and their products, baked goods, bread and similar products, beverages, and more. The UAE Nutri-Mark front-of-pack labeling regulation is a mandatory technical regulation, but it is still in draft stage and open for comments until 27 December 2025.
According to the new ""Nutri-Mark"" labelling system, products are classified into five grades from A to EThe UAE regulation on Front-of-Pack (FOP) nutrition labeling establishes general principles and specific requirements for placing Nutri-Mark labels on food and beverage products listed in Annex (5). The label must be printed or affixed on the main display panel or an alternative main display panel of products presented in their final form to consumers.
Exempted Categories: The following products are not required to carry the Nutri-Mark FOP label:
Foods with negligible energy or nutrient content, such as spices and flavorings.
Fresh vegetables and fruits (whole or cut) with no added ingredients or preservatives.
Fresh or chilled unseasoned/unprocessed meat, poultry, and fish.
Foods served directly to consumers from preparation sites (excluding baked goods and pastries).
Single-ingredient foods such as rice, tea, coffee, or sugar.
Food additives.
Foods intended for manufacturing or packaging, not for direct sale.
Foods in small packages with a surface area less than 25 cm².
Bottled water and mineral water.
Self-service packages if a nutrition label is present on a display board or original container.
Foods and beverages formulated for athletes.
Infant foods for children aged 0–3 years.
Infant formula and follow-up formula.
Processed cereal-based baby foods.
Foods for special medical purposes.
Total meal replacements and meal substitutes.
Dietary supplements"
