WTO Circulates Egypt's Notification on the Draft Standard ES 1562 for Liquid Synthetic Detergents for Manual Dishwashing

On March 27, 2025, the WTO circulated Egypt's notification regarding the draft of Egyptian Standard ES 1562 for liquid synthetic detergents for manual dishwashing. This draft cancels and supersedes the previous version from 2015, along with its partial amendment in 2023. The new standard aligns with several international regulations, including Regulation (EC) No 648/2004 on detergents, Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (REACH), Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP), JIS K 3370/2019, and GSO 2238/2021. The draft also references Ministerial Decrees No. 535/2015 and No. 499/2023. G/TBT/N/EGY/90 refers to Ministerial Decree No. 535/2015, which mandates compliance with the standard for producers and importers of liquid synthetic detergents for kitchen and tableware. This decree grants a six-month transitional period for compliance. G/TBT/N/EGY/90/Add.1 refers to Ministerial Decree No. 499/2023, which introduces a partial amendment and reiterates the six-month transitional period for producers and importers to comply with the updated version of Egyptian Standard ES 1562. The draft sets the general requirements for liquid detergents, covering material specifications, examination, and testing methods for cleaning kitchen utensils and tableware.
