On March 20, 2026, Tanzania notified the World Trade Organization (WTO) under the Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Agreement of a draft standard DTZS 4349:2026, First Edition, issued by the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS). The draft measure establishes specifications, sampling procedures, and test methods for reusable (multiple-use) menstrual panties intended for external use. The proposed standard outlines quality, safety, and performance requirements, including microbiological testing, chemical safety parameters, and textile performance criteria. It references various national and international standards, including ISO methods for microbiological analysis, sterilization, and biological evaluation, to ensure product safety and reliability. The regulation aims to enhance consumer protection through improved product quality, safety, and labelling, while also facilitating trade through standardized requirements for reusable menstrual hygiene products. The proposed dates for adoption and entry into force are yet to be determined. Stakeholders are invited to submit comments within 60 days of notification, with the comment period ending on May 19, 2026.
