"The WTO has circulated a notification from Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda concerning the draft East African Standard DEAS 295:2025 – Bleach for domestic, professional and industrial uses – Specification (Third Edition). The proposal, notified by the Tanzania Bureau of Standards, sets out requirements, sampling procedures and test methods for chlorine- and oxygen-based bleach products under HS 340249 and ICS 71.100.40. The measure aims to harmonize quality and labelling rules across the East African Community, improve consumer information, and facilitate trade by reducing technical barriers.

The draft standard covers product specifications, pH determination, performance criteria and conformity assessments, referencing methods such as EAS 847-17 and ISO 4316. Stakeholders have been given 60 days to comment, with 5 December 2025 as the deadline, before the measure proceeds to adoption and entry into force at a later determined date."
