On 09 April 2026, Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety published the minutes of the Working Group meeting on cosmetic ingredients held in Luxembourg. The hybrid meeting brought together experts to review ongoing scientific assessments, regulatory developments, and data requirements related to cosmetic substances. During the session, the Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW) highlighted two active calls for data on glyoxylic acid (used in hair straighteners) and phytonadione epoxide (vitamin K antioxidant), both nearing their submission deadlines in 2026. Depending on the data received, new mandates may be issued to the SCCS for further evaluation. Updates were also provided on substances such as titanium dioxide (nano and non-nano forms) and ongoing regulatory discussions, including industry input on prostaglandin analogues. The Working Group reviewed several draft opinions, including those on heliotropin and acetophenone, while noting delays for cresyl methoxycinnamate (UV filter) due to pending data. Finalisation efforts progressed for opinions on cannabidiol (CBD), butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA), and Microsilver BG, which are expected to be adopted in plenary meetings.
