On 29 April 2026, the European Parliament adopted its position on the Omnibus VI proposal, a key initiative aimed at simplifying EU chemicals legislation, with strong majority support. The proposal seeks to streamline regulatory requirements across major frameworks, including the Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) Regulation, the Cosmetics Regulation, and the Fertilising Products Regulation, while maintaining essential safety and consumer protection standards. Parliament supports simplification measures under CLP but insists on preserving clear and legible labeling, including supplier details and hazard information in advertisements. In cosmetics, it proposes stricter rules, including faster phase-out timelines for carcinogenic, mutagenic, or reprotoxic (CMR) substances and tighter controls on nanomaterials and distance sales information. Additionally, Parliament adopted its position on revising the European Chemicals Agency Regulation to strengthen the Agency's capacity and efficiency. Negotiations with the Council and Commission will follow to finalize the legislation.
