On 20 April 2026, European Chemicals Agency opened a public consultation on the proposed harmonised classification and labelling (CLH) for Swinglea glutinosa (Rutaceae) leaves extract obtained using ethanol and water. Submitted by the Netherlands, the dossier currently proposes no classification for the substance; however, a broad range of hazard classes has been made available for stakeholder review and comment. These include physical hazards such as flammability and explosivity, as well as health and environmental hazards like carcinogenicity, reproductive toxicity, acute toxicity, skin and eye irritation, respiratory sensitisation, and aquatic toxicity. The consultation is part of the EU's regulatory framework under the CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, which aims to ensure consistent hazard identification and communication across Member States. Notably, certain hazard classes are open for comments even where the dossier submitter did not propose classification, allowing for comprehensive scientific scrutiny. The 60-day consultation period runs until 22 June 2026, during which interested parties including industry stakeholders, researchers, and the publicare invited to submit evidence-based feedback.
