On 8 May 2026, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) updated its Harmonised Classification and Labelling (CLH) consultations webpage under the European Union Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) Regulation, inviting interested parties to submit scientific comments and supporting information on hazard classifications currently open for consultation. The consultations form part of the EU regulatory framework intended to ensure harmonised chemical hazard communication and strengthen protection of human health and the environment across Member States. According to ECHA, the CLH consultation process enables stakeholders to comment on hazard classes proposed by dossier submitters for substances lacking existing harmonised classifications or for updates to current Annex VI entries under the CLP Regulation. Hazard classes open for consultation may include carcinogenicity, mutagenicity, reproductive toxicity, respiratory sensitisation, endocrine disruption, aquatic toxicity, persistent and bioaccumulative properties, and specific target organ toxicity. Consultations generally remain open for 60 days, during which scientific evidence, supporting data, and comments may be submitted for consideration by the Committee for Risk Assessment (RAC). The updated consultation registry includes substances undergoing evaluation such as 1) 1-isopropyl-2,2-dimethyltrimethylene diisobutyrate, 2) metaldehyde 3) chloroethane 4)cobalt bis(2-ethylhexanoate) 5) cobalt dihydroxide 6) cobalt(2+) propionate 7) cobalt(II) 4-oxopent-2-en-2-olate 8) cobalt oxide 9) hydrochloric acid 10) maleic acid 11) N'-(1,3-dimethylbutylidene)-3-hydroxy-2-naphthohydrazide 12) N-ethyl-N-[2-[1-(2-methylpropoxy)ethoxy]ethyl]-4-(phenylazo)aniline 13) silver chloride 14) sulphuryl difluoride ECHA noted that RAC may ultimately recommend classifications that are more severe, less severe, or different from those initially proposed, provided the hazard classes were open for consultation during the process.
