The UK Food Standards Agency (FSA) launched a public consultation on its proposal to ban the use of bisphenol A (BPA) and other structurally related bisphenol compounds in food contact materials (FCMs). The proposed ban aims to align UK regulations with the European Union’s recent measure, which prohibits the manufacture, use, and trade of BPA and other hazardous bisphenols in a broad range of FCMs, effective since January 2025. The FSA’s initiative reflects growing scientific and regulatory concern over bisphenols’ endocrine-disrupting and toxicological effects, particularly regarding food safety and consumer health. Stakeholders are invited to provide feedback on the potential impacts, feasibility, and scope of the proposed restrictions. The consultation remains open until 24 December 2025, after which the FSA will review submissions and determine the next steps for national implementation.
