FSSAI has kept in abeyance the coffee-chicory labelling provisions introduced through the Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) First Amendment Regulations, 2025.The decision was taken following industry representations regarding difficulties in implementing the prescribed box declaration, particularly on packages with a Principal Display Panel (PDP) not exceeding 100 cm². FSSAI has approved a simplified front-of-pack declaration format: COFFEE …%, CHICORY …% Minimum font size requirements: PDP ≤ 100 cm²: minimum 1 mm PDP > 100 cm²: minimum 2 mm Compliance Timeline The earlier implementation date of 1 July 2026 has been deferred. Food Business Operators (FBOs) must comply with the revised requirements by 1 July 2027. The extension has been granted to facilitate amendment of the relevant regulations and provide industry with sufficient transition time.
