The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has notified the Food Safety and Standards (Vegan Foods) Amendment Regulations, 2026, introducing changes to the labelling requirements for vegan food products.
The amendment replaces sub-regulation 4(2) of the Food Safety and Standards (Vegan Foods) Regulations, 2022, and requires every approved vegan food product to display the prescribed vegan logo on its packaging. The revised provision updates the logo requirements that manufacturers and food business operators must follow when marketing vegan foods in India.
The amendment follows a public consultation process initiated in December 2022, during which comments and suggestions from stakeholders were reviewed by FSSAI before finalization of the regulation. The new requirements will come into force on 1 July 2027, providing industry with a transition period to update packaging and labelling to comply with the revised vegan logo specifications.
