India's Food Safety and Standards Authority (FSSAI) has published the draft Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Amendment Regulations, 2026, proposing new standards for minor seed oils, edible seeds, and permitted additives in grape wines, key proposals are: 1.Minor Seed Oils (Regulation 2.2.10) New standards for chilli seed oil, muskmelon seed oil, okra seed oil, and tomato seed oil Hexane residue limit of 5 mg/kg for solvent-extracted oils; cold-pressed oils must be free from hexane residues Quality specifications covering acid value, iron, and copper content Oils must be free from rancidity, adulterants, mineral oil, and added colours or flavours 2.Edible Seeds (Regulation 2.3.66) New specifications for edible vegetable seeds and oilseeds intended for direct human consumption Maximum 8% moisture Maximum 1.25% free fatty acids Maximum 0.1% foreign matter 3.Grape Wines Proposal to permit Potassium Polyaspartate (INS 456) in grape wines at a maximum level of 100 mg/kg
