Indonesia's National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM) has officially issued BPOM Regulation No. 11 of 2026 on Food Packaging, introducing an updated regulatory framework for the safety of food packaging used for processed foods. The regulation was enacted on 23 June 2026 and published on 30 June 2026 in the State Gazette of the Republic of Indonesia (No. 433 of 2026). The new regulation replaces BPOM Regulation No. 20 of 2019, which has been formally revoked upon the entry into force of the new requirements. The update aims to strengthen public health protection and ensure that food packaging materials used by the food industry comply with current safety standards and technological developments. The regulation applies to all business operators involved in the production, import, and distribution of processed foods in Indonesia. By introducing updated packaging safety requirements, BPOM seeks to enhance regulatory oversight of food-contact materials, provide greater legal certainty for industry stakeholders, and ensure the continued safety of food products available to consumers.
