Israel has notified the WTO of a proposed amendment to its food additive legislation that would incorporate the latest European Union updates to Regulation (EC) No. 1333/2008 without modifications. The proposal aligns Israeli requirements with EU legislation as updated through October 2025 and introduces changes to the conditions of use of several food additives across multiple food categories.
Key amendments include the implementation of Commission Regulation (EU) 2025/2058, which updates additive provisions for foods intended for particular nutritional uses, including infant and young child foods, edible caseinates, dry pasta, and nutritional components. The proposal also revises permitted uses and conditions for Advantame in food categories 13.2 and 13.3.
In addition, Commission Regulation (EU) 2025/2060 would authorize the use of sorbic acid (E 200) and potassium sorbate (E 202) in non-heat-treated plant-based mousses. The proposal further incorporates Commission Regulation (EU) 2025/2084, which updates specifications and permitted uses of quillaia extract (E 999), including its use in certain beverages, confectionery products, and food additive carriers.
If adopted, the amendment will further harmonize Israel’s food additive framework with the latest EU requirements, facilitating regulatory alignment and trade with international partners.
