Israel’s Ministry of Health has published a draft amendment to its Food Protection Regulations, proposing the adoption of recent European Union changes to authorized food flavourings under Regulation (EC) No 1334/2008. The proposal, Regulation 1334/2008 – Amendment No. 2, 2026, is intended to maintain alignment with EU food law, which Israel incorporated into its food regulatory framework on 1 January 2025. 1.Implementation of Commission Regulation (EU) 2026/172 Addition of 3-[3-(2-isopropyl-5-methyl-cyclohexyl)-ureido]-butyric acid ethyl ester (FL No. 16.136) to the list of authorised flavouring substances. Update of CAS registry numbers for four existing flavourings: FL No. 08.017 → CAS 97-67-6 FL No. 08.127 → CAS 13794-15-5 FL No. 16.041 → CAS 150436-68-3 FL No. 16.132 → CAS 67604-48-2 2.Implementation of Commission Regulation (EU) 2026/175 Authorisation of hesperetin dihydrochalcone (FL No. 16.137) as a flavouring substance. Establishment of a maximum use level of 10 mg/kg in specified food categories, including certain dairy products, dairy alternatives, crackers, beverages, and fruit- and vegetable-based foods. The draft amendment is scheduled to enter into force on 15 July 2026, following publication in Israel’s Official Gazette.
