Polish food safety authorities have issued a notification through the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) concerning the unauthorised marketing of a food supplement containing Chelidonium majus L. (greater celandine), a botanical ingredient prohibited for use in food supplements. According to RASFF Notification 2026.6372, the product originated from the United States and was marketed through online sales channels. The notification was classified as an Information Notification for Attention, alerting Member States to the presence of a non-compliant product on the market. The issue relates to the use of Chelidonium majus flower and herb in the manufacture of the food supplement. The botanical is subject to restrictions due to safety concerns and is not permitted for use in food supplements under applicable national regulations. As a result, authorities determined that the product was unauthorised for placing on the market. The case highlights the continued scrutiny of food supplements sold through e-commerce platforms and the importance of verifying the regulatory status of botanical ingredients before marketing products in the European Union.
