Finnish food safety authorities have issued a notification through the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) following the detection of elevated levels of mercury in freeze-dried reindeer liver food supplement capsules. According to RASFF Notification 2026.6360, the incident has been classified as a potentially serious risk. Official laboratory testing identified mercury at 0.31 mg/kg, exceeding the applicable maximum limit of 0.1 mg/kg by more than three times. The non-compliance was detected during official market controls conducted in Finland. Due to the excessive mercury content, authorities determined that the product poses a food safety concern and initiated a market withdrawal to prevent further distribution and consumer exposure. Mercury is a toxic heavy metal that can accumulate in the body over time, and regulatory limits are established to minimize potential health risks associated with dietary exposure. No illnesses linked to the affected product have been reported. However, consumers who have purchased the supplement are advised to follow any recall or withdrawal instructions issued by the relevant authorities.
