On 19 June 2026 Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment (MOCEE) of South Korea published a draft partial amendment to the Standards for Recycled Raw Materials Used in Food Containers for public consultation. The proposed revisions are intended to improve the administration of food-grade recycled material certification by reflecting operational experience, expanding quality testing methods, and addressing procedural gaps identified during implementation. The draft introduces provisions allowing an extension of the processing period for issuing confirmation certificates following applications to produce food-grade recycled raw materials. It also establishes formal procedures for the voluntary return of confirmation certificates by businesses engaged in the production and recycling of food-grade recycled materials. In addition, the proposal expands the quality standard testing requirements by incorporating KS T1330 as an approved test method for recycled raw materials. According to the ministry, these amendments are designed to improve administrative efficiency, ensure greater regulatory clarity, and facilitate smoother implementation of the certification system. Stakeholders, including businesses and interested organizations, are invited to submit comments on the proposed amendments by 10 July 2026, after which the ministry will review the feedback before finalizing the revised standards.
