South Korea Proposes New Health Functional Food and GMP Logos to Reduce Consumer Confusion

South Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) has published Public Notice No. 2026-314, proposing amendments to the Labelling Standards for Health Functional Foods that would introduce redesigned Health Functional Food and GMP logos. The proposal aims to improve consumer understanding by clearly distinguishing these logos from the HACCP mark used on general food products, reducing the risk of consumers mistakenly identifying ordinary foods as health functional foods. Key proposed changes: 1.Complete redesign of the Health Functional Food and GMP logos to enhance visibility and differentiation. 2.Health Functional Food logo must appear on the principal display panel with a minimum size of 15 × 15 mm. 3.Smaller packages (total surface area of 150 cm² or less) may use a reduced-size logo, provided it remains clearly legible.
