On 24 April 2026, South Korea Ministry of Employment and Labor published Notice No. 2026-26 announcing amendments to the “Standards for the Classification, Labeling, and Material Safety Data Sheets of Chemical Substances.” The revised standards were issued by the Chemical Accident Prevention and Investigation Division as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen chemical hazard communication and workplace chemical safety management in line with updated international practices. According to the ministry, the amendments revise requirements related to classification criteria, hazard labeling, and preparation of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for chemical substances used in workplaces. The updated standards are intended to improve consistency and accuracy in the communication of chemical hazards to workers, employers, and downstream users handling hazardous substances. The ministry stated that the revised framework supports alignment with globally harmonized approaches to chemical hazard classification and labeling while enhancing the effectiveness of occupational safety and chemical accident prevention measures.
