Taiwan's Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) has established new use and labelling requirements for a mixture of 2'-Fucosyllactose (2'-FL) and Difucosyllactose (DFL), human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) produced through fermentation using a genetically modified Escherichia coli K-12 DH1 MDO MAP1001d strain. The regulation took effect on 24 June 2026 and permits the ingredient's use in infant formula, follow-on formula, and milk powders or similar products intended for children under seven years of age. The ingredient may be used at levels up to 1.6 g/L in infant and follow-on formula and up to 1.2 g/L in milk powders and similar products for young children. The final ingredient must not contain genetically modified microorganisms or recombinant DNA and must meet specified purity and safety criteria. Manufacturers are also required to provide source labelling indicating that the ingredient is produced using genetically modified microorganisms, although this requirement does not apply to finished foods manufactured using the ingredient
