On 2 April 2026 Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (Ministry of Health and Welfare) & Chemical Substances Management Agency (Ministry of Environment) jointly announced the promotion of the "Bag Box Transmission, Bring Your Own Containers, and Eat with Peace of Mind" initiative. The press conference highlighted the importance of adopting sustainable consumption habits to reduce plastic waste and improve food safety awareness. The initiative encourages citizens to reuse shopping bags, bring personal containers, and adopt environmentally friendly practices to support plastic reduction and circular economy goals. It was noted that millions of tons of plastic enter marine environments annually, increasing the urgency of behavioral change and policy enforcement. The Ministry of Environment emphasized ongoing plastic restriction measures introduced since 2002, including bans on free plastic bags in retail outlets such as department stores, supermarkets, and convenience stores, as well as gradual restrictions on plastic straws and disposable cups.
