"The Ministry of Public Health of Thailand is preparing to enforce the upcoming Notification on the Determination of Criteria, Conditions, Methods of Use, and Ratios of Food Additives (No. 4) under the Food Act B.E. 2522 (1979). The draft notification, recently approved by the Food Board, will come into full effect once signed by the Minister and published in the Royal Government Gazette. The regulation aims to strengthen oversight of food additives by repealing Account No. 1 and Account No. 2 from the earlier Notification No. 444 (B.E. 2566, 2023), while introducing new detailed terms and conditions for specific additives. To ensure smooth transition, food products containing additives permitted under Notification No. 444 may continue to be sold for up to two years from the effective date of the new law. These changes will provide clearer guidance for manufacturers, importers, and food business operators, ensuring compliance with international standards while safeguarding consumer health. The Thai FDA’s Food Division has also prepared detailed guidelines to help businesses adapt before enforcement begins. This marks another significant step in Thailand’s ongoing efforts to modernize food additive regulations, improve transparency, and strengthen food safety standards in line with both domestic needs and global practices."
