On May 5, 2026, Ukraine officially joined the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Committee on Environmental Policy and its subsidiary bodies, marking a significant step in enhancing its participation in global environmental governance. This membership strengthens Ukraine’s role in shaping international environmental policies, particularly in areas such as environmental restoration, green recovery, and sustainable development, which are critical in light of the environmental damage caused by ongoing conflict. It also enables Ukraine to adopt OECD best practices in environmental management, financing, and regulatory frameworks. Participation in the Committee will support the harmonization of Ukraine’s national legislation with international standards, improve institutional capacity, and facilitate access to investments for sustainable and climate-resilient development. The decision to grant membership was adopted by the OECD Council on November 22, 2025, following Ukraine’s formal request submitted in December 2024. The Government of Ukraine formally accepted the invitation in April 2026, completing the accession process.
