On 15 June 2026 World Trade Organization (WTO) circulated a notification under Article 5.6.2 of the TBT Agreement concerning a proposed East African cosmetics analytical standard submitted by the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) on behalf of the East African Community (EAC) Partner States- Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda. The notification covers beauty and skin care preparations, including sunscreen, manicure and pedicure products (HS 3304; ICS 71.100.70). The notified document, DEAS 847-11:2025, Cosmetics Analytical Methods Part 11: Determination of Allyl Isothiocyanate (Second Edition), prescribes analytical test methods for determining allyl isothiocyanate in oils and fats used in the cosmetics industry. The proposal updates the earlier EAS 847-11:2017 standard and supports harmonized analytical procedures across the region. Its objectives are to protect human health and safety, promote harmonization of technical requirements, reduce trade barriers, and facilitate regional trade. The proposed adoption date has not yet been determined, and no entry-into-force date has been specified. Stakeholders may submit comments until 14 August 2026
