On 15 June 2026 World Trade Organization (WTO) circulated a Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) notification submitted by the East African Community (EAC) Partner States- Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda. The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) serves as the agency responsible for the notification. The proposed measure covers beauty or make-up preparations, skin care products, including sunscreen and suntan preparations, and manicure or pedicure preparations (HS 3304; ICS 71.100.70). The notification concerns Draft East African Standard DEAS 847-7:2025, Cosmetics-Analytical Methods- Part 7: Determination of Specific Gravity (Second Edition), a 12-page document in English. The draft specifies analytical test methods for determining the specific gravity of oils and fats used in the cosmetics industry, replacing the 2017 edition and complementing EAS 847-1 (Glossary of Terms). The proposal aims to protect human health and safety, promote regional harmonization, and reduce trade barriers while facilitating trade among EAC Partner States. The proposed dates of adoption and entry into force have not yet been determined. Comments on the draft standard may be submitted until 14 August 2026
