On 12 June 2026 World Trade Organization (WTO) circulated an addendum submitted by Egypt concerning the draft Egyptian Standard ES 8011, "Liquid Detergent for Cleaning Fresh Vegetables and Fruits with or without Disinfectant." The notification updates the content and scope of the previously notified draft standard and makes the revised 15-page Arabic text available for review. The notification covers products classified under ICS 71.100 – Products of the Chemical Industry. The Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality (EOS) is the authority responsible for the notified measure, while the designated national enquiry point handles comments. The revised draft aligns with several international and European regulatory frameworks, including Regulation (EC) No. 648/2004 on detergents, Regulation (EU) No. 10/2011 on food-contact plastic materials, REACH (EC) No. 1907/2006, CLP (EC) No. 1272/2008, the European Commission Ecolabel criteria for hand dishwashing detergents (2021), and ECOCERT Greenlife Guidelines (2022). The objective of the measure is to update national quality and safety requirements for detergents intended to clean fresh fruits and vegetables, with or without disinfectant properties, while maintaining consistency with internationally recognized standards. The dates of adoption and entry into force remain to be determined, and no new deadline for comments has been specified in the addendum.
