On April 9, 2026, the World Trade Organization (WTO) circulated notification G/TBT/N/TPKM/591 titled "Chinese Taipei Notifies Proposal for Legal Inspection Requirements for Household Polyvinyl Chloride Gloves." The proposed measure, issued by the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI) under the Ministry of Economic Affairs, introduces mandatory inspection requirements for certain household gloves. The proposal requires that household polyvinyl chloride (PVC) gloves be subject to mandatory inspection prior to being placed on the market, in response to concerns over product quality and risks associated with excessive plasticizer content. The conformity assessment procedure will be based on a Declaration of Conformity (DoC). The requirement applies specifically to lined household PVC gloves not marked for non-household use and excludes disposable gloves. The objective of the measure is the protection of human health and safety through strengthened product compliance and quality assurance. The proposal is currently under consultation, with adoption to be determined and a planned entry into force date of January 1, 2027. Final date for comments: 8 June 2026.
