The Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries and the National Administration of Medicines, Food, and Medical Technology (ANMAT in Spanish) thru Joint Resolution 7/2026, updated the Argentine Food Code regarding long-lasting milk, allowing the dairy industry to share the same technical criteria as Brazil and the other Mercosur countries. In this way, regulations in effect since the mid-1990s are being replaced, and the legislation is being adapted to the technical advances recorded in the dairy industry. The measure is part of the regulatory harmonization process of the regional bloc, whose objective is to unify technical and sanitary criteria to facilitate trade and ensure common standards. 1.Incorporates into the national legal system the MERCOSUR Technical Regulation on identity and quality for UAT (UHT) milk, approved by GMC Resolution No. 13/23. 2.It replaces article 560 bis of the Argentine Food Code, adapting its content to the new regional technical criteria. 3.Update the definition, classification and sales name of UHT milk, considering the categories whole, semi-skimmed or partially skimmed and skimmed. 4.It establishes harmonised requirements for composition, physical-chemical, microbiological, sensory, hygiene, packaging and labelling characteristics. 5.Define the authorized additives, the reference methods of analysis, and the applicable sampling criteria. 6.Repeals GMC Resolutions No. 78/94 and No. 135/96, replacing them with a single updated technical regulation.
