On 1 April 2026 Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS), Department of Health and Aged Care, Australia launched a public consultation titled "Have your say about AICIS fees 2026-27," seeking stakeholder feedback on proposed fee and charge structures for the 2026-27 registration year (1 September 2026 to 31 August 2027). The consultation focuses on the financial framework supporting AICIS regulatory activities and invites input from industrial chemical introducers, including importers and manufacturers, on potential changes to fees. The consultation period closes on 15 May 2026. For the 2026-27 registration year, AICIS proposes several key changes. These include a one-off 90% discount on the registration levy to reduce accumulated surplus funds and bring the scheme's cash balance closer to target levels, followed by reinstatement of the pre-2026-27 levy with two years of indexation in 2027-28 to ensure long-term financial sustainability. Additional reforms include reducing the number of certificate application types from five to three to simplify the application process and improve efficiency. The proposal also includes increasing certificate application fees to achieve full cost recovery and applying indexation only to selected service fees without altering their structure.
