On 1 April 2026 Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS), Department of Health and Aged Care, Australia, issued an Inventory Variation Notice regarding revocation of Confidential Business Information (CBI) and updates to terms of listing on specific information requirements for a specified industrial chemical under the Industrial Chemicals Act 2019. The notice relates to chemical CAS No. 2097886-94-5, a complex polymeric substance named 1) 2-Propenoic acid, 2) 2-methyl-, C12-15-branched and linear alkyl esters, 3) polymers with A) 2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate B) Me methacrylate C) tert-Bu 2-ethylhexaneperoxoate-initiated, and confirms that the approval previously allowing the proper name of the industrial chemical to be treated as confidential business information has been revoked. As a result, updated transparency requirements now apply to the chemical's inventory listing. In addition, the AICIS Executive Director has varied the terms of the Inventory listing under Section 85 of the Industrial Chemicals Act 2019 to introduce specific information requirements (SIRs). These obligations require introducers (importers or manufacturers) of the chemical to report certain changes and circumstances within 28 calendar days. The variation also covers situations where the chemical begins domestic manufacture in Australia or where risk-related manufacturing changes occur after initial assessment. The listing was originally recorded on 30 March 2026, with the variation becoming effective on 31 March 2026.
