Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has introduced a major procedural reform by mandating the use of the electronic Product and Claim Approval Application System (ePAAS) as the single-window platform for all prior approval and risk assessment applications under the Indian food regulatory framework. The new system becomes mandatory from June 1, 2026.
Previously, applications for approvals, authorizations, risk assessments, and notifications were handled through multiple submission channels, including manual filings, emails, and different departmental processes. Under the new office order All applications requiring prior approval must now be submitted only through the ePAAS portal. Offline, physical, and email-based submissions will no longer be accepted. A centralized digital workflow has been established for submission, review, monitoring, and appeals. FSSAI has formally consolidated approval pathways for products, ingredients, claims, and processes into a unified electronic system.
The authority also clarified that dossier formats will continue to follow the framework established under the Food Safety and Standards (Approval for Non-Specified Food and Food Ingredients) Regulations, 2017 unless otherwise specified.
