On 2 April 2026 Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers (Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals), Government of India issued Order S.O. 1722(E) amending the Morpholine (Quality Control) Order, 2020 in the public interest to address global supply chain disruptions. The notification recognizes that prevailing international market conditions have affected the availability of Morpholine, an important industrial chemical used in various applications such as corrosion inhibitors, rubber chemicals, and water treatment processes. In consultation with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the Central Government has determined that a temporary regulatory relaxation is necessary to ensure uninterrupted supply in the domestic market. Accordingly, exercising powers under Section 16 read with Sub-section (3) of Section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, the Government has amended the existing Quality Control Order. The amendment introduces a proviso temporarily suspending mandatory compliance with the prescribed Indian Standard for Morpholine. This relaxation applies for the period from 1 April 2026 to 1 July 2026, during which conformity to the specified Indian Standard shall not be mandatory. The objective of this measure is to prevent disruptions in the supply chain and ensure continued availability of Morpholine for industrial users in India.
