On 19 September 2025, Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) officially published the final cabinet order removing sodium stearate (CAS: 822-16-2) and phosphoric acid, triphenyl ester (CAS: 115-86-6) from the country’s list of substances subject to mandatory labelling and safety data sheet (SDS) requirements. The order appeared on the e-GOV Public Comment Portal and came into force immediately upon publication. With this regulatory change, companies handling these two substances in Japan are no longer required to provide hazard labels or SDS documents, thereby easing compliance responsibilities for businesses engaged in their manufacturing, import, or distribution.
