AquaStar (USA) Corp of Seattle, WA announced a voluntary recall of a limited quantity of frozen raw shrimp imported from Indonesia due to potential exposure to very low levels of cesium-137 (Cs-137), a man-made radioactive isotope. The affected shrimp may have been prepared, packed, or held under conditions where contamination could have occurred. While none of the products tested positive for Cs-137, the recall is issued as a precautionary measure to ensure consumer safety. Cs-137 is known to be present at varying background levels in the environment, especially in areas with environmental contamination. Customers who have purchased the recalled shrimp are advised not to consume the product and either dispose of it safely or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. No related illnesses have been reported yet. Consumers with questions can contact AquaStar at 1-800-331-3440.
