"On 10 November 2025, Israel’s Ministry of Health released document 360778325, formally approving DHA oil extracted from Schizochytrium sp. as a novel food ingredient. The approval applies to biomass-derived oil from the specific microalgal strains listed in the guidance: ATCC 20888, ONC-T18, and T-18.

According to the document, the ingredient must consist of 100% Schizochytrium sp. oil and comply with strict compositional criteria. These include a minimum DHA content of 22.5% and a maximum trans-fatty-acid limit of 1%. The approval establishes the regulatory basis for use of this microalgae-derived DHA oil within Israel’s food sector."
