"Thailand’s Department of Livestock Development (DLD) has issued Addendum 3 to WTO notification G/SPS/N/THA/778, reinforcing its stance on temporary suspension of imports and transit of live poultry and poultry carcasses from the United Kingdom. The measure has been taken in response to continuing outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), specifically subtypes H5N1 and H5N5, detected in the UK. The suspension is intended to protect Thailand’s domestic poultry industry, safeguard animal health, and prevent potential disease introduction through international trade.

The order prohibits the entry and passage of affected poultry products, ensuring that potentially infected animals or carcasses do not reach Thai territory. By applying this precautionary approach, Thailand aligns with global animal health practices under the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) guidelines. The notification also reaffirms Thailand’s commitment to international transparency under the WTO Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS Agreement).

Stakeholders, including importers and trading partners, are advised to monitor the situation closely, as the restrictions remain temporary but may be extended depending on the disease status in the UK."
