"In a decisive move to curb the spread of highly pathogenic avian diseases, Thailand’s Department of Livestock Development (DLD) has declared a temporary halt on the importation and transit of live poultry and poultry carcasses from Spain. Thailand frequently invokes SPS measures in response to outbreaks of diseases such as High Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI). Whenever outbreaks are reported in exporting nations, measures—including temporary bans—are enforced to safeguard Thailand’s domestic poultry industry. The measure in question reflects a response to reports of avian influenza activity in Spain. This directive follows emergency protocols under the country’s animal health authority Key Highlights:

1.Issuing Authority: Department of Livestock Development (DLD), Thailand

2.Affected Goods: Live poultry (including chickens, ducks, etc.) and poultry carcasses originating from Spain

3.Purpose of Suspension: Preventing the transmission of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) suspected or confirmed in Spain

4.Regulatory Basis: Measures adopted under Thailand’s Animal Epidemics Act B.E. 2558 (2015) and aligned with international SPS (Sanitary and Phytosanitary) standards

5. Action Type: Temporary ban—specifically targeting both imports and transit goods from Spain. The notification is in force immediately, with no specified end date.

Ongoing surveillance and further updates by the DLD will determine the duration of the suspension. Exporters, trade stakeholders, and other interested parties may submit comments during the open comment period, as indicated in the ePing alert notification. Entities exporting poultry products to Thailand from Spain should closely monitor updates from Thailand’s DLD and prepare for potential impacts on logistics and regulatory compliance"
